Arise, Nepal By Pastor Danie Packard Community Church International Thief River Falls, Minnesota
I am always amazed at how God works and who He chooses to go. I believe that we all need to be ready in season and out to give an account or testimony about what God has done in our lives. When I was asked to go to Nepal the first time in 2007, God allowed me to dance on the mountain tops. His message was rejoicing and dance before the Lord. In 2010 the message was the responsibility of fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters in the body of Christ.
I want to impart some words of wisdom to people headed to foreign countries: After a 17 hour flight, the last thing you want to have happen is to not be picked up at the airport, not to know where to go, or how to get there. After a couple of desparate calls back to the states, we got an address and a telephon number. We piled our luggage into a taxi and headed out into the night. Imagine our hosts surprise to be woke up at four o’clock in the morning by two people hammering on their door that were supposed to arrive a day later.
Nothing is impossible with God. Arriving in Nepal was just like I had remembered it three years earlier, except this time was special because I got the opportunity to share my passion for Nepal and Its people with my son. Every Christian father should have that same type of opportunity.
As we ministered in homes and churches it was fun to sit back and see my son stretched to be all that he could be in Jesus. As he took the message of sonship to the Nepali people it was awesome to see the people’s response to the message. As we laid hands on and spoke into people’s lives we saw changes before our very eyes. Hope was restored where there was no hope. Joints were lubricated and made new by the touch of the Fathers hand. Sick bodies were healed and faith and hope were restored.
Our team of three along with the Director of Every Home for Christ for Nepal, David Lepcha visited two rural Christ groups and put on a youth rally for the young people of the Kathmandu Valley. As we arrived at each gathering we found the body singing and praising God. The people of Nepal love to sing and are very melodious in the songs they sing.
As soon as we arrived the singing stopped and everybody gathered to hear the Word.
The message went forth along with prayer and the laying on of hands. Lives were touched, and lives were challenged to go on with Jesus. We were able to pray specifically for the pioneer missionaries that were receiving the backpacks, wool socks, and pack liners that we brought with us from the states. It was pure joy to see the smiles and gratitude on the faces of the pioneer missionaries. Everybody was fed a hot meal and then dismissed to go back to their homes. Some of the people had walked for hours just to get to the meeting.
Being with and praying for the youth of Nepal was awesome. Sitting through a youth rally with 200 young lions and lionesses is life changing. God allowed us the opportunity to see lives changed before our very eyes. We saw hopelessness change into hope and a reason for living. We saw young men and women recommit their lives to Jesus, lives that will be changed forever.
Our last night in Nepal was spent in a resort hotel north of the capital city of Kathmandu about an hour and a half drive. I wanted William to be able to experience the sun rising over the Himalaya’s. We will not discuss the roads or the twists and turn that we took just to
get to the hotel. Arising early we were met by foggy conditions and no hope of seeing the sun rise. We took a leisure trip back to the airport and caught our plane for Bangkok with an overnight lay-over in Delhi India. What an awesome sight we encountered as we broke through the clouds. There was the Himalaya’s spread out majestically right outside our plane window. We got the opportunity to soak in God’s splendor for over an hour as we flew from Kathmandu to Delhi. What a privilege to see God’s handiwork.
Would I go again? Absolutely! When you see power, passion and people completely sold out to Jesus it will change your life forever.
